



Hewett is a strategy & management consultant and social impact change driver for non-profits and public service enterprises in his role as Executive Managing Partner at ChiuGroup. He also serves as Executive Director at the New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene, overseeing a $50 million per year citywide health integration innovation, the largest of its kind in the United States with a total staff of over 500. In addition, Hewett is the co-founder, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and President & CEO of the Academy of Medical & Public Health Services (AMPHS), a U.S. Top-Rated Nonprofit out of 1.8 million reviewed and rated charities across the nation. He strongly believes in servicing the needs of the community through philanthropic means, and is especially interested in improving healthcare systems. As such, Hewett's experience in healthcare management extends to his prior appointment as President of the federally-recognized Medical Reserve Corps Unit #2178, Office of the U.S. Surgeon General. Through the Medical Reserve Corps, Hewett was able integrate best practices in both the military and the business sectors to provide for the best possible model of emergency medical response. He is now applying this experience to researching models for creating a unified healthcare system that addresses the everyday needs of community health access through analyzing federal EMTALA, PRUCOL, and DSH funding limitations.
An educator at heart with almost a decade of experience as a cardiac life support instructor for medical professionals, Hewett has been honored as an Instructor Trainer in emergency medical care and life support. He holds current and/or previous certifications as an Emergency Cardiovascular Care faculty member from the American Heart Association, the American College of Emergency Physicians, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. In addition, Hewett was a New York State Medical Skills Examiner, where he approved practical skills of candidates applying for their emergency medical services licenses; served as a Council Member of the AHA Scientific Council on Clinical Cardiology from 2014 to 2015; and has been an Associate Member of The Cardiothoracic Surgery Network since 2010. Academically, Hewett's background is in Neuroscience with a specific focus in neurodegenerative diseases from New York University's Center for Neural Science where he was a Goldstein Scholar, and additionally holds a Master in Public Administration, specializing in Health Law & Finance from NYU’s Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, NYU School of Law, and the NYU Stern School of Business through NYU’s prestigious joint-degree program where he was a Wagner Merit Scholar. Hewett is an Adjunct Lecturer for the Managing Public Service Organizations core management course and maintains an active research program as a Principal Investigator continuing his postgraduate research in New York State's $8 Billion Medicaid health system reform at NYU Wagner.
Outside of healthcare, Hewett is an active social entrepreneur with experience raising funding and capital from top tier venture capitalists, Fortune 100 executives, private equity investors, and social impact funders. He co-founded Cortex Systems International, a software company dedicated to providing virtual simulation platforms to expose ethical principles in everyday decision making, and served as its Chairman & CEO.
In addition, Hewett is an expert in emergency management, holding 22 federal certifications from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and also holds specialty certifications in Crisis Preparedness & Prevention, Weapons of Mass Destruction, Hospitals Emergency Management, and Forensic Epidemiology from West Virginia University. Hewett also studies healthcare systems and is certified by the Institute of Healthcare Improvement in Healthcare Leadership, Patient Safety, and Healthcare Quality Improvement. He is a Fellow of the Academy for Healthcare Management, a Member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and a Member of the American Health Lawyers Association in its Business Law & Governance Practice Group. In 2015, Hewett was named a Margaret E. Mahoney Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine.
For his work on improving public health and education, Hewett was awarded The President’s Volunteer Service Award – Gold by President George W. Bush in 2008, was honored as a UnitedHealth scholar in 2009, given the New York Guard Coin for Outstanding Performance by the Command Sergeant Major in 2010, named keynote speaker in Congress on healthcare reform in 2009 and on infectious disease prevention in 2011, awarded Special Congressional Recognition by the United States Congress in 2014, profiled as one of the 10 Most Influential Asian Americans in the United States by Wells Fargo and World Journal in 2015, and was a Forbes 30 Under 30 nominee and finalist in 2016, among other honors.
